Cape May, NJ – April 8, 2019 – Already a Cape May ‘must-do’ and a great place to enjoy dining inside or out, Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille will be even better when it opens for the 2019 season on Thursday, May 9.
Cape May’s Ocean Friendly Restaurant
Harry’s announced it is has been designated an Ocean Friendly Restaurant by the Surfrider Foundation. Harry’s has partnered with the Surfrider Foundation in their commitment to making sustainable choices for our ocean. Eliminating disposable plastic ware from the restaurant is a major part of this commitment. Starting with the 2019 season, Harry’s will provide only reusable tableware onsite and environmentally friendly, single-use options for straws, utensils, and cups onsite and for takeout (upon request only).
Already in place as a result of the full 2016 restaurant renovation and management’s conservation mindfulness are proper recycling practices, not using plastic bags for takeout orders, water conservation efforts including low-flow faucets and toilets, and energy efficiency efforts including LED lighting and Energy Star appliances. Additionally, all seafood options are "Best Choice" or "Good Alternative” as designated by Seafood Watch, or are certified sustainable.
“As a neighbor of the ocean, we at Harry’s understand the importance of protecting the waters and the sea life within. The ocean serves us well, and we know it’s our responsibility to serve it just as well, using as many conservation and environmentally conscious practices as possible,” said owner Jonathan Hirsch.
“Crushing” It in 2019
Just when you thought Harry’s couldn’t get any better, they’ve taken a fresh take on their top menu items, and are adding new drink and menu specialties – all while staying true to the tradition that’s made Harry’s a favorite for locals and visitors alike. Harry’s is celebrating its sixth year as the Cape May Chili Chowder Cook-off Champion (2014-2019) for its New England Clam Chowder – a signature must-try dish, along with favorites like the crab mac ‘n cheese, seafood potpie, lobster BLT and mussels served with a choice of five different signature sauces.
Harry’s is also famous for its Crush adult beverages made with fresh squeezed juices, and patrons can look forward to a new menu of Crush choices including:
~Half & Half Crush – ½ Orange & ½ Grapefruit Crush;
~Peach Crush - orange vodka, triple sec, fresh squeezed orange juice, peach puree & sprite;
~Key Lime Crush – whipped cream vodka, fresh squeezed lime & ginger ale;
~Pomegranate Crush – PAMA Liqueur, citrus vodka, fresh squeezed lemon, cranberry & sprite;
~Lemon Crush – citrus vodka, fresh squeezed lemon & sprite.
Harry’s also features local craft beers, 14 draft beer selections and other fresh cocktails.
New Live Entertainment
For those seeking a vibrant bar scene and entertainment, the upstairs deck/bar will once again be hopping with the best views and live music in Cape May.
Reggae Sunday is a new addition to the live entertainment lineup in 2019. Taking place every Sunday in July and August from 4-8, Reggae’s off-beat rhythm will fill the air on the rooftop deck with performances by Suburban Sensi, Jack Light Move, Trinidelphia, Cheezy and the Crackers, The Burnsiders, and Ear Me Now.
The owners have scheduled live entertainment every night of the week in 2019, encompassing a wide range of musical genres, including vintage folk and pop, music from the 60’s to 80’s, and reggae. Scheduled returning and new performers at Harry’s include The Honeyhawks, Nicki Sbaffoni, Nate Cwik, Marnie & Nate, MJ Nestor, Que Farkas, The Bastard Sons of Captain Mey, Dead Reckoning, and The Change.
