Hawk Haven Vineyard & Winery Joins the Winemakers Co-Op
The Winemakers Co-Op has expanded to include Hawk Haven Vineyard & Winery.
Lower Township – Hawk Haven Winery was recently invited as the 5th winery to join the Winemakers Co-Op. The organization promotes fine vinifera wines from New Jersey-grown grapes. It was created to promote the fine wine movement in the Garden State. The goal is to highlight and encourage premium New Jersey wine production with exclusive events, press outreach, and industry investment. “It was probably a year or so before we agreed to expand, and then it took more time to identify our new Co-Op partner,” said John Cifelli, the organization’s director. “We’re very close knit, so we needed everyone to be sure it was the right move, and that the new addition was the perfect fit.”
Hawk Haven Winery’s Winemaker, Todd, says, “Hawk Haven is incredibly excited to be part of the Winemakers Co-Op.” Hawk Haven’s recent 2018 harvest of Chardonnay grapes will be used in the Open Source Chardonnay. A half ton of estate-grown Chardonnay grapes will be contributed by each winery in the Co-Op. These grapes are then all pressed together and each winery takes home an equal share of the juice to be fermented in the Winemaker’s own style. “The crop sharing program is an added bonus, as we can all collaborate on what we did to make the same chardonnay into our own personalized wine,” says Todd. Look out for the first vintage involving Hawk Haven Winery’s 2018 Chardonnay grapes in 2020.
